Due to globalism, shifts in the global market and modern production methods, Norwegian craftsmanship techniques are in danger of going obsolete. In an effort to prevent this, the UNESCO NGO accredited «Norges Husflidlag» has made a list called «Rødlista» listing all of the Norwegian handcraft techniques that are in the danger of going extinct. The aim of this project has been to generate awareness and help preserve the traditions of these die-ing techniques and our handcraft traditions in Norway. When I had mastered the craft of making ølhøner, kipebindinger and lagging, I used the special details, techniques and moments to develop contemporary designs with a homage to the past which resulted in the three objects; a stool, a table and a tray.
While making the stool I used the wood weaving technique from «kipebinding», traditionally used to create baskets, to create the seat of the stool. Furthermore, the wood joinery is also inspired by the details of the «kipe»
